Responsibilities and Experience
Margaret is one of the BRI’s biosafety specialists. As a team member of the biological safety program, her responsibilities include assisting with the internal biosafety and biosecurity training program and supporting the oversight of laboratory biosafety and biosecurity programs. She also assists in assuring compliance with the Select Agent Program.
Before coming to Kansas State, she was the biosafety officer at the Institute for Food Safety and Health in Illinois, where she developed a campus-wide biosafety program and a select agent program. Prior to that, she did contract research on a wide variety of infectious agents, including BSL-3 and ABSL-3 work with Bacillus anthracis, Yersinia pestis, Francisella tularensis, Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus and Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis Virus.
Margaret has a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from Oregon State University, and a doctorate in biology from Kansas State University.
Margaret is a Registered Biosafety Professional and a member of ABSA International.
